Kremennaia

a city (since 1938), the administrative center of Kremennaia Raion, Voroshilovgrad Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Located in the Donbas on the Krasnaia River, a left tributary of the Severskii Donets. Kremennaia has a railroad station on the Kharkov-Voroshilovgrad line. Population, 25,000 (1972). Coal is mined and natural gas extracted there; a furniture combine, a building materials plant, a household wares plant, a dairy, and a factory for the production of a special type of accordion called a baian are in Kremennaia. The city is a logging center and has a state tree nursery. A medical school is located there. Kremennaia came into existence in the late 17th century.
