Krenke, Nikolai Petrovich 

Born July 21 (Aug. 2), 1892, in Tbilisi; died Nov. 25, 1939, in Moscow. Soviet botanist.

In 1921, Krenke graduated from the agricultural department of the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute. In 1924 he began working at the K. A. Timiriazev Moscow Biological Institute, becoming the head of its department of phytomorphogenesis in 1931. From 1936, Krenke headed the Laboratory of the Morphology of Plant Development of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal works were on experimental morphology (the nature of plant chimeras and the phenomena of transplantation and regeneration in plants). He proposed a method of studying the age variability of plants and a theory concerning their cyclical aging and rejuvenation.
