Kristol, Irving

Kristol, Irving (William) (1920–  ) editor, educator; born in New York City. The son of Jewish immigrants, he graduated from the City College of New York in 1940, became active in left-wing political circles, and saw combat with the U.S. Army in France (1944–45). Gradually moving to the right, he edited Encounter magazine from 1953–58, and, beginning in 1965, The Public Interest magazine. He taught social sciences at New York University from 1969–88. His Reflections of A Neoconservative appeared in 1983.
