Krk (kûrk), Ital. Veglia, island, 157 sq mi (407 sq km), in the Adriatic, off the Dalmatian coast, NW Croatia. The largest of Croatia's islands in the Adriatic, it has several small seaside resorts. The chief town, Krk, has retained its medieval walls and castle and has a 13th-century Roman Catholic cathedral.
Krk 

an island in the northern Adriatic Sea, in the Dalmatian islands. Belongs to Yugoslavia. Area, 408 sq km. The northwestern part of the island is a hilly plain; in the southeast there are low mountains up to 569 m in elevation. The island is composed of limestones, marls, sandstone, and flysch. Karst is developed. The climate is Mediterranean. Vegetation includes evergreen shrubs and pine and oak forests, grapevines and olive and citrus trees are cultivated. There is fishing. The main city is the city of Krk, which is also a seaside health resort.
