Krkonoše Hory
(in Polish, Karkonosze), mountains in Poland and Czechoslovakia; the highest range of the Sudetes, with elevations of up to 1,602 m (Mount Sněžka). In the north they are composed primarily of granites and gneisses; in the south, of schists. The surface of the peaks is gently sloping and undulating, with individual forms of alpine terrain (cirques, morainic lakes, and rock streams). The area has beech, fir, pine, and spruce forests; there are deposits of iron and copper ores, as well as coal. Theere is livestock raising. The area of Krkonoše Hory is a national park (in Poland and Czechoslovakia). The mountains are a center for skiing and tourism. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
