Krogman, Wilton M. (Marion) (1903–87) physical anthropologist; born in Oak Park, Ill. He taught at Western Reserve (1931–38), then at the University of Chicago (1938–47), before joining the University of Pennsylvania (1947–71). His examinations of fossil North American human skeletons ascertained their physical typology and cultural patterns. His later paleoanthropological studies (1935–45) elucidated human immigrations to Europe via western Asia. He established the Philadelphia Center for Research in Child Growth (1947), and compiled the "Philadelphia Standards" (1947–71), criteria of anatomical measurements applicable to many aspects of pediatric medicine, especially congenital palatal deformities.
