Born May 10, 1863, in Helsinki; died July 9, 1933, in Sammatti. Finnish folklorist. Son of J. Krohn. Krohn became a professor at the University of Helsinki in 1898. Beginning with his early research, Krohn developed the comparative historical-geographic method. In his work on the Kalevala epic (parts 1–6, 1924–28, etc.), Krohn asserted the western Finnish, aristocratic origin of the runes.
