Kruger National Park, game reserve, c.8,000 sq mi (20,720 sq km), Limpopo and Mpumalanga, NE South Africa. One of the world's largest wildlife sanctuaries, it has almost every species of game found in southern Africa. In its rivers are found hippopotamuses and crocodiles; everywhere countless varieties of birds can be seen. Vegetation in the park ranges from savanna to dense brush. Tourists driving along the park's extensive (c.5,000-mi/13,000-km) road system can observe the animals at close quarters.
