Krum 

Year of birth unknown; died Apr. 13, 814. Bulgarian khan from 803 to 814.

Krum issued the first all-Bulgarian laws. He greatly expanded the territory of the Bulgarian state by annexing the lands of the Avars up to the Tisa River in 805, the Byzantine city of Serdica (present-day Sofia) in 809, and Adrianople in 813. Krum died while readying a siege of Constantinople.
