She frequently portrayed the degeneracy of the society from which she separated herself. Her works include the controversial novel cycles Tonyböckerna [the Tony books] (1922–26) and Fröknarna von Pahlen [the Misses von Pahlen] (1930–35). In these novels she presented for the first time in Swedish literature a candid picture of sexual problems. Her works are outstanding for the skill and psychological acuity of her writing.
