Kubertavičius, Petras
Born June 22, 1897, in the village of Vartu, now Lazdijai Raion; died Feb. 14, 1964, in Vilnius. Soviet Lithuanian actor and director. People’s Artist of the Lithuanian SSR (1959). Kubertavičius made his stage debut in 1916 and in 1919 joined the Kaunas Dramatic Theater. His roles included Sarunas (Sawnas by Krieve-Mitskiavidius), Rusteika (The Sons of Dawn by Chiurloniene-Kimantaite), Chebutykin (The Three Sisters by Chekhov), and Gloucester (King Lear by Shakespeare). He directed The Cocks Are Crowing by Baltušis (1948 and 1958) and The Prodigal Son by Blaumanis (1957). Kubertavi&us was a founder of the professional Lithuanian theater. He began to teach in 1935.
