Kujawy
a historical region in Poland between the middle course of the Vistula and the upper Noteć. In ancient times it was inhabited by a West Slavic tribe known as the Kujawiacy. Kujawy became an appanage in 1139, a województwo in 1231, and an appanage duchy in 1247. In the early 14th century part of Kujawy became crown land, and by 1388 the entire area was incorporated into the royal domains. As a result of the first and second partitions of Poland (1772, 1793) Kujawy was annexed to Prussia. In present-day Poland, Kujawy includes the southern part of Bydgoszcz Województwo, and part of neighboring Poznań Województwo. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
