Kulakovskii, Aleksei Nikolaevich 

Born Dec. 11 (24), 1913, in the village of Kulaki, now in Minsk Oblast, Byelorussian SSR. Soviet Byelorussian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1948.

Kulakovskii participated in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). He published his first collection of stories, The Garden, in 1947. Subsequent collections of stories and novellas included The Tempering (1948), New Meetings (1950), Fine Sunrise (1952), Unforgettable Echo (1956), Here I Live… (1960; Russian ed., 1967), and Your Path Is Before You (1968). He is the author of the war novel Our Parting Is Not for Long (parts 1–2, 1953–62). In 1972, he published the novel Roads Known and Unknown. Kulakovskii’s works raise acute social and moral problems. He has been awarded four orders and a number of medals.
