Kulmamedov, Aman

    0.01 sec.
Kul’mamedov, Aman

Born Dec. 31, 1908, in the aul (village) of First Geok-Tepe, now in Geok-Tepe Raion, Turkmen SSR. Soviet Turkmen actor; People’s Artist of the USSR (1949). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Kul’mamedov graduated in 1929 from a Turkmen school of drama and joined the company of the First National Theater of Drama (present-day Mollanepes Turkmen Theater of Drama in Ashkhabad). His magnificent stage characterizations were marked by heightened drama and realistic power. They included the title roles in Keimir-Ker by Amanov and Burunov and Makhtumkuli by Kerbabaev and Allan in Allan’s Family by Mukhtarov (State Prize of the USSR, 1951). His Othello was a milestone in the history of Shakespeare’s plays on the Soviet stage. Another facet of his acting talent is seen in his satirical portrayals of the Mayor in The Inspector-General by Gogol, lusov in A Profitable Post by Ostrovskii, and Ivan Gorlov in The Front by Korneichuk.

Kul’mamedov became the chief producer and director of the Mollanepes Theater in 1963. He was a deputy to the second and third convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the first and fourth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Turkmen SSR. Kul’mamedov has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
