Kumertau 

a city (until 1953, a settlement) in Bashkir ASSR. Population, 44,000 (1970). Kumertau has a railroad station 102 km south of Sterlitamak and 241 km south of Ufa. The city’s industries include coal mining (the Babaevo deposit), a briquette factory, a machine-building factory, a brickyard, and a ski factory. A heat and electric power plant is located in Kumertau. Gas is extracted in the surrounding area. Kumertau has a mining and mechanical technicum and a teachers’ school.
