Cunene or Kunene (both: k
nā`nə), river, rising in W central Angola and flowing c.750 mi (1,200 km) S and W to the Atlantic Ocean. Its lower course forms part of Angola's border with Namibia.Cunene a river in southern Africa, in Angola, forming part of its border with Namibia. It is 945 km long and drains an area of more than 100,000 sq km. Rising in the Bié Plateau, in its upper reaches it flows through rocky canyons, forming rapids and waterfalls. In its middle course it flows through a wide valley, and in its lower course it again forms rapids and falls. The river empties into the Atlantic Ocean.
