Cunene River

 or Kunene River

River, southwestern Angola. It flows south to enter the northern Kalahari Desert. Forming part of the boundary between Angola and Namibia, it passes through the Namib Desert before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean after a total course of 700 mi (1,125 km).

The Serra Cafema Camp is a remote and luxurious camp that sits on the banks of the Kunene River and is often visited by the local Ovahimba tribes.
To be built on the Kunene River between Angola and Namibia, the consequent flooding will deprive them of their main reserve in times of drought, vital to sustain the herds of cattle around which their lives revolve.
The Ruacana power plant, Namibia's sole hydropower station, is affected by seasonal factors in the dry season when the Kunene River runs dry.
