Kupletskii, Boris Mikhailovich 

Born Jan. 10 (22), 1894, in St. Petersburg; died Jan. 14, 1964, in Moscow. Soviet geologist. Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences (1945).

Kupletskii graduated from the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute in 1921. Between 1917 and 1951 he worked at geological institutions of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (from 1937 at the Institute of Geological Sciences). From 1920 to 1932 he taught at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. His main works were devoted to the quantitative mineralogical classification of igneous rocks and to studying the alkali rocks of the Kola Peninsula, the Ukraine, the Saians, western Mongolia, the Urals, and other regions. In 1923 he and A. N. Labuntsov discovered an apatite deposit on the Kola Peninsula. In 1950, Kupletskii received the F. Iu. Levinson-Lessing Prize. In addition, he was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
