Kurchatov 

an urban-type settlement in L’gov Raion, Kursk Oblast, RSFSR, located on the left bank of the Seim River in the Dnieper basin (6 km from the Lukashevka station, on the Kursk-L’gov railway line, and 56 km southwest of Kursk). Kurchatov was founded in 1971 in connection with the construction of the Kursk Atomic Power Plant. The settlement is named after I. V. Kurchatov.

The program will also transform the Kurchatov nuclear institute, which has a synchrotron radiation source to be used for nanotechnology R&D, into Russia's nanotechnology research hub.
First, scientists from the Moscow Kurchatov Institute presented physical evidence that the dominant sources of energy released by the exploding reactor were not the officially assumed thermal explosions (Fairlie and Sumner 2006) but rather very low-yield nuclear chain reactions in heavy elements, combined with chemical reactions (Checherov 2006).
