Turkic). (1) In the Ukraine, the name given to a shelter made of branches and straw, a watchman’s hut in gardens or melon fields. (2) In some parts of the Ukraine and the Don region, the name for an ordinary rural dwelling.


Kuren’ 

a military unit of the Zaporozh’e Sech’, which in its later period was divided into 38 kureni, named after the place of origin of the cossacks in the unit, for example, the Kanev, Korsun’, Uman’, and Poltava kureni. A kuren’ was headed by an elected kuren’ ataman, and its members lived together in a large hut, also called a kuren’.

These rivers are now part of the Pulong Tau National Park and are known to the Penan by different names, Labid River as Kalit, Selunok as Dat, Lawan as Pedereng, Sabai as Kuren, and Kerurai as Kelure.
