Kurentsov, Viktor Grigor’evich 

Born Apr. 15, 1941, in Tusinka, Vitebsk Oblast. Soviet athlete. Honored Master of Sport (1966). Officer in the Soviet Army. Member of the CPSU since 1970.

Kurentsov, competing in weight lifting in the middleweight division, won the Gold Medal at the 19th Olympic Games (Mexico, 1968) and the Silver Medal at the 18th (Tokyo, 1964). He is a five-time world champion (1965–70) and a seven-time European and USSR champion (1964–71). He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
