Kuritsyn, Afanasii Fedorovich
Died no earlier than 1540. Russian statesman and diplomat. Son of F. V. Kuritsyn. Kuritsyn became a d’iak (high-ranking secretary) in 1520 and was a close associate of Vasilii III. He frequently participated in diplomatic negotiations with the Polish-Lithuanian state and Kazan Khanate, heading embassies to Kazan in 1525 and 1531. In 1533, Kuritsyn was among those present at the deathbed of Vasilii III, where the question of a regency to govern during Ivan IV’s minority was discussed. Kuritsyn was disgraced in 1538 and does not appear in the sources after 1540. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
