Kurland, (Robert) Bob (1924– ) basketball player; born in St. Louis, Mo. Basketball's first dominating seven-foot center, his shot blocking ability led to a ban on goaltending in 1944 while he was a three-time All-American at Oklahoma A&M (1944–46). A member of two gold medal Olympic teams (1948, 1952), he was elected to basketball's Hall of Fame in 1961. |
