Kurume

Kurume (kr`mā), city (1990 pop. 228,347), Fukuoka prefecture, W Kyushu, Japan, on the Chikugo Plain. It is a commercial and agricultural center and manufactures rubber and cotton goods. Kurume is a former castle town.
Kurume 

a city in Japan, southwest of Kyushu Island, situated on the Chikugo River in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Population, 192,400 (1970). It is an old center of the hand-woven cotton industry, producing the high-quality “Kurume” fabrics. The city also manufactures electrical machines, gourmet dairy foods, radiotechnological apparatus, chemicals, and tires.
