Kurzweil, Raymond C. (1948– ) computer scientist, entrepreneur; born in New York City. He developed a print-to-speech reading machine for the blind (1976) and a computer music keyboard (1984). A pioneer in automated speech-recognition, he founded Kurzweil Applied Intelligence (1982), which introduced the Kurzweil Voicesystem (1985), technology to transfer speech directly to a computer.
