Kiev Reservoir
a reservoir formed by the dam of the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Plant (capacity 551 megawatts) on the Dnieper River, in Kiev and Chernigov oblasts, Ukrainian SSR, and in Gomel’ Oblast, Byelorussian SSR. The Kiev reservoir, filled between 1964 and 1966, covers an area of 925 sq km and has a volume of 3.7 cu km. It is 110 km long, attains a maximum width of 12 km, and has an average depth of 4.1 m. The level of the reservoir varies within a range of 1.5 m, seasonally regulating the river’s flow. The reservoir was created to develop water transport, electric power, water supply, and irrigation. It is used for fishing (carp, bream, zander, and pike). On the banks are houses of rest, Pioneer camps, and tourist centers. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
