(organic chemistry)
Fluorocarbon polymer made from vinylidene fluoride, (H2C=CF2); has good tensile and compressive strength and high impact strength; used in chemical equipment for gaskets, impellers, and other pump parts, and for drum linings and protective coatings.

Arkema developed a Kynar PVDF formulation with higher melt strength and other desired properties, while ICM devised new tooling and processing techniques to permit blow molding large PVDF containers.
The tiles or panels are then finished with either a Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 paint, which are trade names for a polyvinylidene fluoride resin that use a fluorocarbon compound.
Philadelphia, PA, has granted a license to Rohm & Haas for the production of powder coatings using Kynar 500(R) PVDF resin.
