Lüdenscheid (lü`dənshīt), city (1994 pop. 80,280), North Rhine–Westphalia, W Germany. It is an industrial center; manufactures include aluminum, metal products, plastics, and synthetics. Lüdenscheid was chartered in 1287 and later was a member of the Hanseatic League. Noteworthy buildings include Neuenhof (1694), a moated castle.
Lüdenscheid a city in the Federal Republic of Germany, in the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia. Population, 79,100 (1969). The city is known for the production of metal, including aluminum, goods (60 percent of all employed persons). The city is also the site of electrical engineering, printing, and textile industries; plastics are also processed there. Liidenscheid was founded in the 13th century.
