Lüneburger Heide
part of the Central European Plain in the Federal Republic of Germany, between the lower courses of the Elbe and Weser rivers. Area, 7,400 sq km. Elevation, to 169 m. It is composed of ancient washed up glacial and fluvioglacial deposits, chiefly sands. In the interfluves are heaths, juniper scrub, and pine and birch forests; in the low-lying areas there are bogs and alder and aspen forests. Forests cover about 40 percent of the Liineburger Heide. There is sheep raising and potato growing in the region. Part of the Liineburger Heide was declared a natural park in 1910. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
