The VAP-II generates a series of absorbance curves from which proprietary software produces 6 LDL subclasses labeled as LDL1 (most buoyant) through LDL6 (most dense).
The dietary cholesterol in eggs raises the LDL1 and LDL-2 cholesterol fractions but does not alter the small, dense LDL-3 to LDL-7 particles that scientists believe pose the real heart disease risk.
The LDL1 and LDL2 bands correspond to large, buoyant LDL particles, whereas bands LDL3 to -7 correspond to sdLDL particles.
