Labuda, Gerard 

Born Mar. 28, 1916, in the village of Nowa Huta, near Kartuzy. Polish historian, member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1964.

A professor at the University of Poznań since 1950, Labuda became the university’s rector in 1962. Since 1958 he has been the editor of the Dictionary of Slavic Antiquities. His works and numerous source publications are devoted chiefly to the medieval history of the Western Slavs.
