Lacandón

Mayan Indians who live in a rich tropical rainforest on the border of Mexico and Guatemala. Largely isolated, they maintained a traditional way of life until modern times, fishing, hunting, and growing vegetables and fruits. They spin fibres and weave cloth, tan leather, and make pottery, flutes, dugout canoes, and nets. They have preserved their traditional beliefs. Their total number has declined, and only several hundred remain.

There are, indeed, many indigenous groups throughout the state of Chiapas: Lacandones, Tzotziles, Tzeltales, Tojolabales, Choles, Mames, Cachiqueles, Tuxes, and Zoques, among others, many of whom have descended from the Maya.
Other cases include the kidnapping of Ignacio Salas Obregon and the disappearance of six members of the Brigada Campesina de los Lacandones in 1974, the kidnapping of Jose de Jesus Corral Garcia in Puebla in 1976, and the disappearance of Jose Barron Caldera in 1978.
html Traditionally, the Lacandones lived in complete harmony with their environment, rotating crop fields that reverted back to rainforest.
