Established: Transferred on August 10, 1933, to the National Park Service, the direct legal successor of three Federal Commissioners appointed by the President under act of July 16, 1790, who directed initial construction.

Activities: Tours of the White House have been expanded to include parties of ten or more people, regardless of age or type of group. Tour requests must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance. These self-guided group tours are scheduled approximately one month before the requested date.
Special Features: The White House was originally constructed (1792-1800) on the site selected by George Washington and included in L'Enfant's Plan. It has been the residence and office of every US President since John Adams first took occupancy in November of 1800. Despite some additions and minor changes, the exterior of the main structure remains much as it was in 1800. The interior has been completely renovated using the historic floor plan.
