Lågen

(Numedalslâgen), a river in southern Norway. Length, 342 km; basin area, 5,600 sq km. It begins in the Scandinavian Mountains on the Hardangervidda plateau, flows through the Numedal valley, and empties into the Skagerrak. Average annual flow along the lower course is 123 cu m per sec. The river is in flood in May-June (mainly from the melting of seasonal snows). It is covered with ice from December through March. There is a hydroelectric power plant on the river. The city of Larvik is near the mouth.
