Lagidium
(mountain viscachas, or mountain chinchillas), a genus of rodents of the family Chinchillidae. The body reaches 40 cm in length and is covered with brownish gray fur. Mountain viscachas inhabit dry, rocky parts of the Cordilleras (south to 52°S lat.), at elevations reaching 6,000 m. The rodents are active during the day and live in colonies. Hunted for their fur and meat, mountain viscachas have practically been exterminated in some regions. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
