Lahu 

a people living in southern China, in the province of Yünnan, as well as in the northern regions of Thailand and Burma. Total population, 200,000 (1967, estimate). The language of the Lahu is related to the Lo (Yi) languages of the Tibeto-Burman group. The majority of Lahu people maintain their ancient animistic beliefs; a small number are Christians. Their main occupations are agriculture (rice, corn, vegetables) and hunting.

The Lahus, like the Karen and other hill tribes of northern Thailand, are newcomers to tourism to the demands of inviting strangers not only to poke around their environment but also to stay in their homes.
