Lajoie, (Napoleon) Nap (1874–1959) baseball player; born in Woonsocket, R.I. During his 21-year career as a second baseman (1896–1916), mostly with the Cleveland Indians, he posted a lifetime batting average of .339. In 1901, he batted .422, highest ever in a season in the American League. He was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1937.
