Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area Location: 9 miles north of Ogallala, off NE 61, just below Kingsley Dam. Facilities: 262 campsites (62 with electrical hookups), modern restrooms, showers, picnic areas, 2 boat ramps, hiking trail (2 miles), 2 docks, boat rentals, fish cleaning station, fishing pier (é), concessions (including lodging). Activities: Camping, boating (all types; 5 mph limit), fishing, hiking. Special Features: Known locally as the "little lake," Lake Ogallala is just below the much larger Lake McConaughy, at the base of Kingsley Dam. Water enters Lake Ogallala from the bottom of Lake McConaughy and is extremely cold.
