Pielinen 

(also Pielisjärvi), a lake in southeastern Finland, in the basin of the Vuoksi River. The lake extends from northwest to southeast for 92 km and has widths to 28 km. Area, 850 sq km; depths, to 48 m; elevation above sea level, 94 m. The banks are hilly, forested, and strongly indented. There are numerous islands. Water from Lake Pielinen flows through the Pielis River to Lake Pyhäsëlka. The lake freezes in late November and thaws in mid-May. It is navigable.
