Tuz Gölü 

a closed salt lake in Turkey, on the Anatolian Plateau. Tuz Gölü is situated at an elevation of 899 m. In winter and spring its area varies from 1,600 to 2,500 sq km, and in summer it dries up and becomes covered with a crust of salt up to 2 m thick. The average depth is approximately 2 m. Salt, mostly NaCl, constitutes as much as 34 percent of the water’s volume; salt is mined near the east coast. The bottom of the lake is clayey. Near the southern and western shores there are salt marshes.
