Lalande, Joseph Jérôme le Français de 

Born July 11, 1732, in Bourg-en-Bresse; died Apr. 4, 1807, in Paris. French astronomer. Member of the Paris Academy of Sciences (1753).

On assignment from the Academy of Sciences, Lalande in 1752 conducted observations of the moon from Berlin in concert with N. de Lacaille’s observations at the Cape of Good Hope. The purpose of the observations was the exact determination of the lunar parallax. Lalande also determined the position of more than 47,000 stars.
