Location: On the east side of Macon, Georgia, on US 80 east (Emery Highway). Main access is from I-75 to I-16 east, at the north end of Macon, and then the second exit from I-16 (Coliseum Exit). Facilities: Picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required. Activities: Hiking, fishing, ranger-led programs. Special Features: Traces of 12,000 years of Southeastern culture from Ice Age Indians to the historic Creek Confederacy are preserved here, including the massive temple mounds of a Mississippian Indian ceremonial complex that thrived between AD 900 and 1100 and many artifacts.
