Lancers
an English ballroom dance. It became widespread in Europe in the mid-19th century. The dance is performed by four couples placed in a crisscross fashion in the set. It consists of five figures. The first, third, and fourth figures are in 6/8 time, and the second and fifth are in 3/4 and 4/4 time. Each figure, except the fifth, begins with a musical introduction (eight bars). In some countries, especially Russia, the dance was popular among the common people. Numerous variants of it have been created in Russian folk dance. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
