Landé g factor [län′dā ′jē ‚fak·tər]

Also known as g factor.

The negative ratio of the magnetic moment of an electron or atom, in units of the Bohr magneton, to its angular momentum, in units of Planck's constant divided by 2π.

The ratio of the difference in energy between two energy levels which differ only in magnetic quantum number to the product of the Bohr magneton, the applied magnetic field, and the difference between the magnetic quantum numbers of the levels; identical to the first definition for free atoms. Also known as Landé splitting factor; spectroscopic splitting factor.

(nuclear physics)

The ratio of the magnetic moment of a nucleon, in units of the nuclear magneton, to its angular momentum in units of Planck's constant divided by 2π.
