Land based. Refers to standard telephone and data communications systems that use in-ground and telephone pole cables in contrast to wireless cellular and satellite services.

According to Broadcast and Cable, two of the nation's largest landline phone companies have reported huge spikes in call volumes on voting nights.
Currently, about 70 percent of citizens own a mobile phone; most didn't even have a landline phone 12 years ago.
Since we started using Skype, the amount we're spending on international mobile and landline phone calls has dropped significantly.
