Landon, H. C. (Harold Chandler) Robbins (1926– ) musicologist; born in Boston, Mass. Landon studied music at Swarthmore and then in Boston with Karl Geiringer. He went to Vienna in 1948 to pursue Haydn research, which finally led to the monumental Symphonies of Joseph Haydn (1955). While continuing as a leading Haydn scholar and editor of the symphonies, he also wrote on other composers of the period including Beethoven and Mozart. How to thank TFD for its existence?
