lane departure system
A vehicular safety system designed to help people who fall asleep at the wheel from drifting off the road. Cameras monitor the white and yellow lines on the road and, if the vehicle crosses the line without the turn signal being activated, the system alerts the driver. See automotive systems.

There is also the BLIS blind spot warning system, and a lane departure warning system.
Trucks in North America began installing Lane Departure Warning systems in 2002, and today, many upscale passenger cars have a Lane Departure Warning system available.
It will first appear in the Volvo S60 in 2010 in the lane departure warning system and in an alert control designed to warn drivers who are about to fall asleep while driving (it analyzes the driving behavior).
