Lanman, Charles (1819–95) painter, writer; born in Monroe, Mich. He studied engraving with Asher B. Durand in New York City, and exhibited paintings at the National Academy. He settled in Washington, D.C. (1849), and is remembered for his publication of the Dictionary of the United States Congress (1859).
