The azoles inhibit ergosterol biosynthesis through their interactions with the enzyme lanosterol demethylase, which is responsible for the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, leading to the depletion of ergosterol in the membrane (30,31). In mammals, it converts lanosterol into the meiosis-activating sterols (MAS). |
