Lapchick, Joe

Lapchick, (Joseph Bohomiel) Joe (1900–70) basketball coach; born in Yonkers, N.Y. He played in the American Basketball League during basketball's formative years (1927–31). One of the game's greatest coaches, he coached 20 years at St. John's University between 1937 and 1965. He also coached nine seasons with the National Basketball Association New York Knicks (1948–56). He was elected to basketball's Hall of Fame in 1966.
